Trauma, Toxic Stress, and ACEs:  Why Should You Care?

“Trauma, Toxic Stress and ACEs: Why Should You Care?”

Presenter: Dr. Tina Hahn, MD

Dr. Hahn will provide a review of the accumulated knowledge about trauma, toxic stress and their effects on children and adults including the impact on brain development, epigenetics and behavior. Dr. Hahn will also discuss the ground breaking, 1997 Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study, conducted by Dr. Felitti (Kaiser Permanente) and Dr. Anda (Centers for Disease Control). She will provide background information about the study as well as its findings. Finally she will discuss the implications of this knowledge for effectively working with children and their families. (60 minutes)

 

“Trauma Informed Communities”

Presenter: Dr. Tina Hahn, MD

Dr. Hahn will discuss trauma informed communities and how they can improve health and well-being for all. She will share her experiences with two communities that are working to become trauma informed and provide information about other Michigan communities with similar efforts. (30 minutes)

 

“Trauma Informed Approaches & Resiliency Building for Human Service Professionals”

Presenter: Mary Mueller, LMSW

Ms. Mueller will discuss the value of using a trauma informed approach in human service programs and organizations. She will provide organizational and practice strategies for addressing trauma/toxic stress and promoting resilience in the lives of families and children. (90 minutes)
