Here is a partial list of information (I don't know of any full scale implementation in Michigan) 1. http://www.avahealth.org/aces_...ic-primary-care.html (From the Academy on Violence and Abuse - RJ Gilespie and Teri Petterson screen for parents of 4 month olds at a large Pediatric Primary Care Clinic in Portland, Oregon. Hi Cathy, I completely agree. I had this article from the RWJF taped to the cork board at my desk and looked at it everyday wondering how I could get these services for the parents of my pediatric patients. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Awards $16 Million to Health Leads to Help Health Care Providers Address Social Factors Boston– Health Leads , an organization which enables physicians and other health care providers to prescribe basic resources such as food and heat for their low-income...

Re: Saving Brains, A Grand Challenge by Dr. Mike Evans

This is an awesome video and shows that by planting and growing a trauma informed community and State (of Michigan), we can really work together to 1. Be able to understand our fellow citizens' suffering (our children's friends, our friends who are having a hard time at work or in the community etc). 2. We can not only see the origin of the suffering, we can start to understand the origin of the suffering (and I would say the diminution of every suffering human's potential). BUT THIRD and...

Cathy, You are right. Why wouldn't we do this? We don't realize that the simple things like the annoying neighbor who won't mow his lawn... Maybe it is ACEs??? Childhood Adversity creates a lot of fear (maybe of machines- Stephen King comes to mind -- and so does my dad who made me help him "fix" all kinds of machines, including trucks, combines, rototillers and plugged septic tanks) -- or going outside or just being seen by people in general) or worse the shooting at the local gas station...

Re: What Michigan Counties Would be Interested in tackling a Public Health Epidemic?

This is the first page of the West Virginia Public Health Survey Monkey. It has a link typed in to a video of Dr. Felitti on ACEs and the ACE study How Childhood Trauma can make you a Sick Adult. You have to cut and past this link into your browser. At the end of survey in a pick box, it allows you to choose which county you live in and there is an "other" option --- I chose other and put in Tuscola, Michigan. I think that is actually great because this would allow the Health Department to...

Basic Presentations for Rural Communities - What are you doing in MI? - Can we change the Name of this group?

Hi Fellow ACE prevention and Community Resilience Building Advocates across the state of Michigan. I have some basic questions. I am doing my best working through an organization called MiTeam of Huron-Tuscola counties. (If anyone is associated with the Genessee/Lapeer County MiTeam on this page, could you send me a private message? I would like to see how you are approaching this subject and working across silos.) We need to develop "curriculum" or "training" (I put these words in...

MiTeam - Do You have this in your community? How can we make MiTeam better?

Former Member ·
Do you have MiTeam in your community? Have you heard about MiTeam? In my community in a rural MI county, our trauma-informed efforts have been directed to MiTeam. I have found it difficult to work grass roots through this route. What have you experienced? I wanted to introduce other members of Northern Michigan ACEs to MiTeam and get feedback on how it is working in building Trauma Informed Communities in your community? How can we improve MiTeam efforts throughout the state? Here is a MDHHS...

What are Your Favorite Resources You Use For Parent Education?

Here are some of mine. I like resources that I can use with parents of pediatric patients. I especially like free resources. What are some of yours? I am always looking to learn about useful resource I am not aware of. Thanks All things Zero to Three has to be my favorite. Michigan Activity

Martha Golubski ·
Hello Everyone! I was introduced to the ACEs connection this year while living in Rochester on my post-doc. I can hardly wait to graduate this summer from WMU's Counseling Psychology Program. I have really enjoyed being part of the community here, where there is a lot of ways to be involved in TIC coalitions and learning collaboratives. I am wondering if there are any active members in this group who are aware of groups in Michigan. Specifically, I am going to be moving back to Kalamazoo so...

adult male with high aces and veteran with bipolar - facing felony possession

Michele Callaghan ·
I have a family member who is otherwise a kind and good citizen who has a bipolar diagnosis and history of childhood trauma as well as being a veteran with cancer. He had possession of guns and was not allowed to and during a manic episode this fall concerned friends and family continually went to the police who did what they could but finally had a reason to search the home for a missing gun from a family members home. He is now facing some felony charges. It is not clear yet if the...
