Michigan ACEs Action (MI)

Healthy and resilient kids, families, and communities are the foundation for a flourishing, vibrant region. We are dedicated to creating a trauma-informed Michigan and working together across sectors to share our efforts in building resilience and reducing toxic stress for Michigan children and families.

Here are some of mine.  I like resources that I can use with parents of pediatric patients.  I especially like free resources.  What are some of yours?  I am always looking to learn about useful resource I am not aware of.  Thanks

  • All things Zero to Three has to be my favorite.  There are lots of different types of resources on the Zero to three web site.   A favorite of mine to give to parents at well child visits is the Healthy Minds Handouts.  These handouts were originally offered as a set for purchase from the American Academy of Pediatrics.  They are no longer available from the AAP, but you can copy them for free from Zero to Three.  There is also a podcast series from Zero to Three called "Little Kids, Big Questions." Their podcasts are wonderful.
  • I love these handouts from the Ohio AAP Chapter created by Dr. Andrew Garner called "Building Pieces of Mind".  They are really for physicians to give to parents at selected well child visits and I use them liberally and use them to explain why early attachment is so essential. I also use them as I subtly demonstrate serve and return interactions.
  • The Backpack Connection Series was created by Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention to provide a way for teachers and parents/caregivers to work together to help young children develop social emotional skills and reduce challenging behavior. Teachers may choose to send a handout home in each child’s backpack when a new strategy or skill is introduced to the class. Each Backpack Connection handout provides information that helps parents stay informed about what their child is learning at school and specific ideas on how to use the strategy or skill at home. Each strategy can also be used by pediatricians working to help parents deal with challenging behaviors or promote positive behaviors right from the start.

What are some of your favorites? I would like to know.  Thanks

Tina
