Philadelphia ACE Task Force ACEs Messaging Group Meeting

The ACEs Messaging Group met on Tuesday, October 12th to discuss their project on their messaging work with three different target audiences. The group began with some light housekeeping – agreeing to keep the space and meeting location and deciding to cancel their November 8th meeting so that everyone in the group has the opportunity to get out to vote.

Several members of the group have been engaged in an online course through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement which focuses on community organizing strategies. Unfortunately, the group did not have the budget to involve everyone but each target audience group has representatives taking the course. Members reported out on their experience – stating that the work has helped them to shape their thinking about how to engage the community in this messaging strategy and for giving them new vocabulary to talk about population health. They mentioned that the models described in the course have been validating in that many of the steps described are ones the group has already taken.

The group went on to report on the work done in their small groups since their last meeting in August. The Youth Messaging Group has worked with Urban Promise to include a three-hour activity at their Summit in November. The activity will include a training from the Youth Healing Team of Hopeworks ‘N Camden as well as a processing activity and structured messaging activity. The Older Adults group has developed several messages and is working to narrow them down for testing. They’ve already identified several partners who could help to recruit focus group participants. Finally, the Parents of Young Children Messaging Group has worked to re-develop their message box, changing their value statement to “All parents want to be good parents.” This has helped them to think about new directions for messaging.

The group then broke into small groups to do more detailed work on their messaging strategies and to plan for focus groups in the coming months.
