Community Health Worker Peer Training/Certified Peer Specialist Training Academy

Do you know what it is like to be impacted by violence in your neighborhood? Do you want to use your experiences to help other people heal from their injuries? We invite you to learn more about becoming a Community Health Worker Peer/Certified Peer Specialist!

The Drexel University Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice is currently seeking applicants for our 9-week Community Health Worker Peer (CHWP)/Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Training Academy. This program, sponsored by a grant from the Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime, is designed to train men, ages 18-30, who have experienced violent injury in their own lives to become Community Health Worker Peers/ Certified Peer Specialist.

This training series, which pairs Community Health Worker Peer and Certified Peer Specialist trainings, provides trauma-informed instruction where participants will gain skills in understanding trauma and violence, peer-based services, health system navigation and community support to help young people in Philadelphia who are hurt by violent injury. Individuals who complete the CHWP/CPS Training Academy will be eligible to apply for employment as a Community Health Worker Peer/Certified Peer Specialist in the Healing Hurt People program.

Applications are due on April 16th, 2018.
