Philadelphia ACE Task Force ACEs Messaging Group Meeting

The ACEs Messaging Group met on Tuesday, April 11th. Representatives from each of the three subgroups focusing on messaging to youth, older adults, and parents of young children were in attendance. The group began with a review of the Philadelphia Block Captains Rally where members from the Older Adults and Parents of Young Children Messaging Groups presented their messaging work. Members interviewed roughly 80 block captains about several messaging options and reported that the block captains generally responded positively. There was some variability in the types of messages they liked. Some members expressed concern about the lack of scientific methods for testing and some feedback that it seemed as though the messaging cards may not get the message across that we’d like to get across. Groups agreed to continue message testing to better understand how the messages impact individuals in these target audiences.

The Youth Messaging Group presented on their upcoming event to bring together a group of youth ages 14-18 to design social media campaigns regarding ACEs, trauma, and resilience. The group will be hosting 20-25 youth for a day. The morning will consist of educational sessions to raise awareness about toxic stress and trauma; ACEs and their impact on health and wellbeing; resilience; and healing and prevention. In the afternoon, marketing consultants will join the group to educate youth about communications and marketing strategies. The group will then break into small groups with the consultants to develop social media campaigns of their own. Each group will then present back. Overall, the ACEs Messaging Group members were excited about this opportunity and provided feedback about best ways to capture the data from youth.
