Philadelphia ACE Task Force Workforce Development Workgroup Meeting

The Workforce Development Workgroup met on Wednesday, October 19th. The group began with an update on the work that is being done with the School District of Philadelphia to conduct focus groups with teachers to better understand the facilitators and barriers to implementing trauma-informed tools in the classroom. It is the goal of the subcommittee working on this project to have IRB approval by December of this year so that recruitment for focus groups can begin in January 2017 and the focus groups can be done in February with analysis completed by the end of March. The larger Workforce Development Workgroup was excited to hear the progress made. Members also provided an update on the ACEs in Higher Education event taking place on October 20th. This event will consist of speakers and panelists from Philadelphia who have been engaged in higher education and the workforce in order to encourage leaders at Philadelphia-area universities to incorporate information about ACEs, trauma, and resilience into their curricula.

The group then moved on to discuss and brainstorm ideas for a potential project that relates to building awareness in the business sector about ACEs and trauma and providing managers with tools to foster more compassionate work environments. The group reviewed materials which would provide a rationale for utilizing trauma-informed principles in the business sector and discussed goals, potential target audiences, and possible outcomes to be achieved. Members will continue to discuss this project and will brainstorm individuals to engage on this work moving forward.
