"Poverty is Violence"

One of my Facebook friends shared this image last night. I wasn't able to find the name of the church but I was quite moved by their display.

There has been a lot of discussion on this platform and beyond as to whether poverty is an ACE and should be included in a person's score. Income disparities have the potential to create traumatic experiences but should trauma-informed care be used in creating solutions for this social problem? Could raising the minimum wage count as a "trauma-informed public policy"? How could the ACEs Connection network be involved in this conversation? As State Senator Daylin Leach's bill gains traction, it will be interesting to see where the discussion goes.

In his epigenetic studies Michael Meeney of McGill University in Canada raises the issue of "poverty being biologically embedded!" The chronic toxic stress imposed by unforgiving poverty does indeed have traumatic biological effects over the long haul. Add to that a hostile societal environment....the synergistic effects are not good! Marilyn Benoit
