Trauma-Informed Workforce Development

The Workforce Development Work Group of the Philadelphia ACE Task Force met on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. The group discussed next steps with regard to upcoming projects for the group. The group discussed possible steps to support for the School District of Philadelphia’s Action Plan 3.0, Action 7 - Recognize, respond to, and support the social-emotional and behavioral health needs of our students. 7a. Equip staff to recognize and appropriately address students’ social-emotional and behavioral needs through trauma. Proposed is to conduct focus groups with school district staff who had been trained in trauma-informed care through the Institute for Family Professionals, and understand the impact of that training and what participants identify as helpful next steps. The group discussed this option: logistics, goals, etc. and identified some key group members to further develop this potential project. Representatives from Shared Prosperity then shared their work on workforce development. They have worked with the Promise Zone and the North Central Choice Zone to develop the Place-Based Jobs and Workforce Development Committee. They were interested in learning more about how they could take a trauma-informed approach to job training and workforce development. The group had significant energy around making headway toward new goals.
