Resilience: What Is It and How Can We Foster It

The Behavioral Health Training and Education Network with support from the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services presents "Resilience: What Is It and How Can We Foster It".

What is it that enables some people to experience a “positive adaptation” in the face of highly stressful life-situations? This introductory workshop will examine the concept of “resilience”, a dynamic process that fosters positive outcomes after significant adversity. While resilience exists across the life-span, this program will focus on the fostering of resilience in children and adolescents.

As a result of this training, participants will have:

  1. Analyzed the definition of Resilience;
  2. Summarized, in small group sessions, Resilience research in four areas;
  3. Identified various Risk & Protective Factors in four domains;
  4. Examined 2 models of a resilience approach in working with young people; and,
  5. Applied Resilience Principles to specific case studies.
