how true.  I love the use of the pictorial metaphors.  We use it regularly in Art Therapy sessions.  Only we do not use ready made pictures which can perpetuate cultural biases.  We ask the client to create his/her own images of "happiness" moments or activities or pleasure giving items.  This way the image is personal and comes from personal experiences, thus by placing it on the paper as an image it is mirrored back to the brain and is available as resilience booster.  For people who are more sensitive to audio brain plasticity development, I ask for a written list in different colors, and read it to the client, as well as have the client read it aloud. This involves both the auditory and visual cortex areas.
