‘Healthy Minds OK’ Roundtable Event on May 3

Hosted by Green Shoe Foundation, Oklahoma City County Health Department, INTEGRIS Mental Health, A Chance to Change and Pivot – A Turning Point for Youth

 

A business roundtable discussion and event on the effects of childhood trauma on the state’s health from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 at the Oklahoma City County Health Department’s Northeast Regional Health and Wellness Campus Auditorium, 2600 NE 63rd St OKC, OK 73111.

 

The free public event “Trauma in Oklahoma - What Has Happened to Us and What Do We Do Now?” will focus on how trauma affects the mental health of citizens in Oklahoma and how therapy and awareness can lessen its effects.

 

Moderator for the event is Ted Streuli, editor at The Journal Record. Additional panelists include:

·     Commissioner Terri White, Oklahoma Dept. of Mental Health and Substance Abuse

·     Chief Bill Citty, Oklahoma City Police Department

·     Tricia Everest, Palomar and Community Leader

·     Pat Potts, Potts Family Foundation

·     District Judge Kenneth Stoner

·     R. Murali Krishna, MD, OLFAPA, INTEGRIS Arcadia Trails Center

·     Debby Hampton, United Way of Central Oklahoma 

 

The following topics will be addressed:

·     What is an Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)? Why ask the question “What happened to you”?

·     Why address trauma and the underlying causes?

·     How does trauma impact the justice system and people in our jails and prisons?

·     What helps individuals, communities and schools be resilient and have healthy minds?

·     How do we recover from the trauma of natural, community and personal disasters?

·     What is a trauma-informed workforce, city and state?

·     What can we do?

 

The Healthy Minds OK Business Roundtable host partners are a non-profit organizations committed to improving and impacting individual lives and communities through self-discovery, awareness, education, programs and resources.  

 

“Recognizing the need to address trauma, which is anything less than nurturing experiences in childhood and as adults, the Healthy Minds OK partners are committed to improving our Oklahoma’s ranking through focused and collaborative efforts,” said Jeanean South, Green Shoe Executive Director. “Impactful events such as this Business Roundtable, give Oklahomans an opportunity to learn more about being trauma-informed through awareness, education and programs with the goal of healing and improved outcomes for our State.”

 

VIP attendees include Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater, Senator Dave Rader, Representative Carol Bush, and Rick Buchanan.

 

To kickoff May’s Mental Health Awareness Month, the Skydance Bridge will be lit green on May 1. Green is the color for mental health awareness #greenlightmentalhealth.
