Raising Resilient Oklahomans! Hope Rising Tour Goes to Durant, OK

The Potts Family Foundation through its OK25by25 Coalition has begun a partnership with Oklahoma’s First Lady Sarah Stitt, who has a personal interest in brain health and has made that her focus, to show the Resilience documentary in communities across the state. Following a very successful event in Oklahoma City at the Tower Theatre in September and one in Tulsa last a spring, we had our first road event earlier this week in Durant.

We worked for weeks with a local team to help plan the venue, build the reactor panel and promote the event. It’s a real partnership between the Foundation, the Office of the First Lady and one or more local organizations to make this happen. The local team creates a directory of resources available in the community to children and families which becomes part of the handout. The First Lady moderates the panel and continues to shine in this role sharing her personal story along with her desire to build resilience and hope in all Oklahoma communities.

In Durant, we worked with Potts Family Foundation board member Sara Jane Smallwood-Cocke to also tour the Choctaw Nation Child Care Center and Headquarters. The local team was also able to highlight the economic growth in Durant through Imagine Durant and Main Street Durant. We received some very good press along the way. A huge shout out to Kheri Smith with Bryan County Turning Point Coalition and Kara Byrd with Imagine Durant for taking care of all local arrangements.

Our next scheduled stops are Duncan on January 16th and Alva on January 23rd.
