Hey people with privilege, you need to be OK with making mistakes and being called out []

Last week, I wrote a blog post called “ Hey progressives, can we stop using the tools of social justice to tear one another down? ” The post resonated with many people, and I received lots of positive feedback from colleagues who felt seen and heard. However, there were also some disconcerting reactions as well. A few people from the opposite end of the political spectrum were gleeful—“Ha ha, the libs are attacking one another! Dr Nadine Burke Harris Sworn in as CA first Surgeon General

Barbara Stern and I (from Reslient Sacramento) were able to attend the swearing in ceremony for CA's first ever Surgeon General, Dr Nadine Burke Harris at the State Capitol in the Governor's Council Room. The ceremony was well attended by family and friends. Governor Newsom lauded Dr Harris as the right person to address the health of California to include early childhood adversity and toxic stress.

The California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators is looking for teachers to interview for their teacher-focused Professional Development this summer. They plan to host an online conference on September 15 (with pre-recorded mini-lectures and interviews) entitled, "Educational Justice: Turning Policy into Practice" with a focus on student equity and social justice. I did a training for them in March on ACEs, so this would be a great opportunity for some of the master teachers in this group to share your strategies and successes.  They have a preference is for teachers who have experience implementing this work with Black and Latino students.

Hello Resilient Sacramento!

I am working with the Sacramento County Office of Education on a marijuana forum that will be discussing marijuana trends, outcomes and legal consequences.

We are looking for a panelists that have direct insight into the growing marijuana issue.  Right now we are seeking out a person in the medical field, a law enforcement officer and a youth.

Marijuana Town Hall on Monday, April 30th

5:00-7:00 pm

Safety Center

3909 Bradshaw Rd, Sacramento, CA 95827

Panelists will speak to information given in Jeopardy game, answer questions and assist during small group discussions.  Jeopardy game will focus on legalities, accidental consumptions, dabbing, edibles, marijuana overdose, mental health and long term health outcomes.  We would prefer to have a people who are witnessing any of these things first hand.  For instance, ER nurse who is seeing a rise in marijuana overdoses…  Or is seeing people becoming sick from dabbing, etc.  Police who have seen an increase in accidents from driving high.

If you or someone you know might be a good fit for the panel please reach out to me directly.

support group

Hello everyone, I need help finding a support group for paralyzed youth?

Hi everyone,

At our last Resilient Sacramento meeting, we discussed our goal for the year - to create a great ACEs Science 101 presentation for use by our community. If you currently have any presentations that you are using, can you send them to me or add them in the comments? We'd like to see what people are already using so we have a starting point.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
