San Diego Trauma-Informed Guide Team November 2, 2018 Meeting Minutes

 

Hello all,

Please see attached and below for the minutes from our November meeting.  San Diego Unified School District's presentation AND notes from our activity are also attached.

  1. Welcome - Introductions (Name and Organization)
  2. Members Invitation on Topic-Specific Membership Meetings - Launch in January, 2019
          a.   Have attendees share their areas of interest on post-it notes

--Leadership team provided examples for members (e.g. Zoom for region-focused meetings, Spotlight series on ACES Connection group, trainings)

--Ideas presented verbally: opportunity for brainstorming within minutes to collaborate among members on grants, projects, trainings for TIC practices; develop thematic webinars following trainings with checklist for process; discuss methods for determining if someone/org is trauma-informed    

--Notes collected and will be shared at next meeting (see attached)

          - SD-TIGT (private) Membership Community on ACEs Connection updates and purpose

                    ­--Reminded members that they can expand upon their listing in the Membership Directory using the Update Form

                    --will post Update Form on ACES Connection as well

          - Email sdtigt.resource@gmail.com with edits, completing Member survey, etc.
          - Invitation for members to join monthly Resource Committee

  1. Training Committee: Co-Chairs Rosa Ana Lozada/ Melissa Tran-Chamblin

          - Interest in Bi-monthly Professional Learning Activity

          --Will develop learning exchange/interactive activities

          --Include or base on Core Components in trainings

          --Asked about strategies for training students and how can inform learning activities

          - Invitation for members to join monthly Training Committee

          -Invitation for training interests/expertise

          --Member asserted desire for interactive training

          --Noted importance/efficacy of lived experience (combination of education knowledge and experiential expertise)

  1. Announcements/Achievements
          a.  Update on Project FORECAST webinar introduction: Audrey Hokoda
              - SAMHSA funded, free training with cross-sector professionals and community
              members, through Problem-Based Learning Simulations (PBL-S) with aim of
              development on “Trauma-Informed Experiential Reasoning Skills (TIERS).

--Described training: interactive, case studies, develop critical thinking, experiential learning activities, 3 days, follow up 6 months later with 2 day training, no $ cost to attend, training materials are provided by SAMHSA, located in SD, reservation deadline is April 2019

--Probably occur next August 2019 and follow up in January 2020

--Audrey has materials that describe simulations and can investigate resources informing members of whole training experience

--Question to address: How does Project FORECAST link with/enhance SD’s current efforts?

--Will provide updates at January and March meeting before April registration deadline

  1. Trauma-Informed Journey Presentation
         a.  San Diego Unified School District, Children & Youth in Transition
              Jennifer Coronel, Program Manager

--Trainings began in 2017/2018 school year: trauma and the brain, the trauma informed school site, self-care and the educator, MindUp curriculum implementation

--California Healthy School survey at end of 2017/2018 year: decline of opinion of safety, caring relationships, high expectations, meaningful relationships from 5th to 9th grade; discrepancy in staff and student perceptions

--2018/2019: effort to focus on social and emotional learning; created depts to support efforts looking at academics and agency side-by-side

--Training Committee to consider what ongoing support can help boost implementation of training and foster culture shifts, how Training Committee can support larger training initiatives in its evolution
