Sonoma County Supervisors Invite Trauma Experts to Inform our Upcoming Journey of Recovery

Sonoma County's Board of Supervisors is singularly focusing on recovery for our community.  Starting with deepening our local understanding of the wildfire's effect on our brains, bodies, and spirit, Tuesday's Board meeting dedicated time to exploring trauma and resiliency.

Two experts were invited to share insights:

  • Dr. Melissa Brymer is director of terrorism and disaster programs at the UCLA-Duke National Center for Child Traumatic Stress and an expert on how children deal with stress following disasters, like, for example, school shootings. Brymer studies how best to offer psychological assistance in the aftermath of disasters.

  • Dr. Robert Macy is a pioneer in the field of Traumatic Incident Stress Interventions, public health-mental health psychosocial intervention and research and violence prevention initiatives for children, youth, their families and their communities exposed to traumatic events including large-scale disasters.

Please consider watching the archived video (this portion starts at exactly 5:00) of the December 5 meeting, Item 52: Board of Supervisors Meeting
