Join Prevent Child Abuse Sonoma County (PCA-SC) and First 5 Sonoma County in welcoming the Public Policy Institute of California as they present "Child Poverty and the Social Safety Net". This presentation will focus on the Bay Area and Sonoma County and give insight into how poverty is measured and how measurement has been improved over the past 5 years. The presenter will reassess poverty in California in light of both the high cost of living in many areas and the contributions of social safety net programs like CalFresh and CalWORKS to families' resources. The presentation will also include a high-level overview of how the social safety net could do more to protect children from poverty.
Caroline Danielson is a senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California. Her research focuses on multiple dimensions of the social safety net, including its role in mitigating poverty, program access and enrollment, and the integration and governance of programs. Her work has been published in numerous academic journals.
