House Committee on Homeland Security to Host Conference Examining Adverse Impacts of DHS Policies on Children

September 19, 2019 (WASHINGTON) – This Friday, September 20th, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, and Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-IL), Vice Chairwoman of the Committee, will host a conference on Capitol Hill to examine the adverse effect of the Trump Administration’s homeland security policies on children.

The conference will include a panel discussion with experienced health professionals on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the Trump Administration’s policies and proposals - including indefinite detention of children, family separation, and the public charge rule. The panel will also discuss adverse childhood experiences related to natural disasters and migration. The press and the public are invited to attend.
