Youth Workers Train To Help Children Of Incarcerated Parents [news.wnin.org/]

A small group of youth workers in the state had the opportunity to learn more about how to help these children whose emotional and mental wellbeing is often impacted. One in 10 Indiana children have a parent who is incarcerated. That’s one of the highest rates in the nation. The training session in Martinsville hosted by the Indiana Youth Institute and led by Volunteers of America ’s Greta Compton. Program To Support Children Affected By Opioid Epidemic [news.wnin.org]

A new initiative aims to address the secondary effects of the opioid epidemic on children. The program expects to reach around 600 kids across Indiana, including here in the Evansville area. The project's goal is to train mentors to support children living in homes with people addicted to opioids. The Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) has been awarded $1.25 million for the project.
