Reply to "Suggestions regarding my petition to get C-PTSD in the DSM-5?"

I have no idea but like the attempt. My two cents (which is just a guess)...

To truly make this happen, the first thing to research is who actually controls the DSM. Who controls what gets included? What power dynamics are at play. Find out who, specifically, needs to be pushed on. And then focuses the pushing efforts that direction.

From there, can take a look at whether an online petition is something that would matter to these individuals. Surely can't hurt. But some petitions seem to do nothing. Then again, I mean, who knows. What goes viral and what doesn't a very complex thing.

I'm kind of weird though. I'm an idealist who also hates false hope and rallies against hope quite often because of it, while also thinking that many things are possible if approached the right way.

The APA makes the DSM, and would a petition effect them? Public pressure would, I feel, to a degree. But probably not a huge amount. Usually they are controlled by research, but they cherry pick data they like when money is involved, I feel.

I am trying to make this more widely known for that pressure aspect, but I think what will have the most pressure is the fact that WHO which controls the ICD has added C-PTSD to the ICD 11 starting in 2022. Because the diagnostic manuals go hand in hand I believe that there will be quite a bit of pressure academically and organizationally. Even if public pressure was just a small bit of extra difference, I think it would be important.

But I'm passionate about the subject, young, and a student. So I very well could be having stars in my eyes, it could have no effect at all. Even with no petition I think the APA may add C-PTSD because of the ICD, though.
