Elaborating a bit - this is delivered through a model that first teaches through the model, then dissects the model, and then replicates the model across a 6-day session (offered either across 3 months or as a 6-day-in-one-week intensive). It encompasses the environment (how does one create a safe learning environment?), student-led instructional strategies, use of restorative practice to manage the classroom and teach self-management (agency), as well as the deep dive into how to structure everything done in a way that is engaging, empowering, and enlightening. It's been life and career changing for participants who have ranged from teachers and administrators.

Hi Karen...We are just getting ready to open registration for our national conference in June  (hopefully by the end of the week). Good for you! Besides getting yourself ready for your new assignment, you might also want to look at Mind Matters: Overcoming Adversity and Building Resilience (https://www.dibbleinstitute.org/mind-matters/) because it can help you guide your young people towards healing.

It is meant to be taught by a paraprofessional in a classroom or other group setting with young people who have experienced early trauma. Its 12 lessons are engaging as well as comprehensive in scope, helping young people to learn how to manage their emotions, understand what happened to them, and build an healing infrastructure around themselves. We do offer training but many people also teach it "out of the box."

I will be moving into a position next school year to better support our students with trauma/high ACE scores. I have been asked to find a seminar/training for ACE. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Something in the summer would be ideal. 

Hi Kara!

I think whichever training you choose, it is very helpful to have solid neuroscience information as a foundation for it.. it helps show the effects of trauma and adversity on brain architecture and functioning in a concrete, tangible way, rather than as just a concept. 

My recommendations:

My super is asking me to get trained first.  This will be a district wide position so I'm sure I will be bringing this back to my staff when our year starts.
