What specific trauma information do you intend on sharing with its teachers and admins? Will it be similar to the NCTSN video on secondary trauma... from a book written in 1995?

Will you propose to the teachers that they (at most) might be suffering from “secondary trauma” while knowing nothing RE: the stresses teachers experience?

Have you read up on occupational health psychology (specifically as stress impacts teachers)?

I’m with Badass Teachers Association. Part of the Quality of Work life Team. We have been addressing school stress since 2014- after learning of four teachers suicides in less than ten days.

Please listen to decades long concerns and wisdom... or risk further traumatizing everyone. Helping kids is like propping up one part of a badly injured building. There’s so much more that needs to be seen. And the people there can help.

I would contact the local school district superintendents, as well as the school counselors for the area school districts.  You might be able to share this information with the ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) teams in the surrounding districts.

Hi Katie,

Thank you for replying to my posting. I am sending information to all administrators in Texas plus counselors, special education teachers, behavioral interventionists, etc. in the region. I was going to offer this seminar in February, but didn't get a lot of interest. I'm not sure why. Is this not yet and priority area for schools, do they have trouble sending people to seminars, or are their needs being met by other resources?

Any help or connections you may have will be helpful.

Thank you,

John Eller

Hi Sandy,

Thank you for your reply. You bring up some very important issues to consider for this type of seminar. This is why I posted my idea; to find out any issues I need to address or be careful of in working in this area in the region.

My plan was to offer the seminar to provide teachers, counselors, and school leaders an opportunity to learn more about ACEs, the impacts on students (and ourselves), identify strategies that can help all children experience productive learning environments, share productive classroom and school-wide (behavior) management, self-care, supporting each other, and other factors to help teachers and schools.

The seminar is only one day, so I can only cover a few topics during this first session.

Thank you,

John Eller

John,

I am a former educator that now works in the adoption field.  The information you desire to share is very important and I believe will be beneficial to the audience you intend to share it with.  It is my opinion that this information is taking some time to pick up steam in the education realm.  I am constantly sharing new information with my children's school district in hopes that one time they might actually look into gaining more knowledge about ACES and Trauma Informed Care.  In time, I believe this will be a regular topic of continuing education for educators.  Praying it will be soon rather than later.  Best of luck to you.

Am forwarding this to Community Managers for Texas ACEs Connection site.

Hi Carey,

Thank you for your message. I have developed a flier that outlines the seminar, outcomes, etc. Would you like me to send that flier to you?

Thank you,

John Eller

Hi Carey,

Here's the flier.

John
