Hello ACEs Community!
I was wondering: do you know of any best practices to train high school staff on ACEs? Are there trainings one can receive in order to facilitate ACEs training to high school staff? I'd greatly appreciate any help.

The first step in moving towards using the ACEs info is awareness of it. Understanding that school staff have so many trainings throughout the year, my partner @Lori Chelius and I have developed a training session that focuses on educating on the foundational aspects of what Trauma Informed and Resilience practices are and where they came from. You can check out our site to read more about The Basics here: https://originstraining.org/the-basics
If you want to take the next step in integrating Trauma Informed and Resilience practices throughout the whole school, contact @Louise Godbold at Echo Parenting. They have programming that will help your staff put the information into practice.
Good luck!
Andi
We have developed a program called Lemonade for Life (lemonadeforlife.com) that addresses not only the history of ACEs but gives practical tools for building hope and resilience. The program is a one day training that addresses mindset of providers, guidance for parents and strategies for working with youth, parents and staff. Participants will leave the training with a toolbox full of resources to stop the transmission of ACEs and pass on hope and resilience.
ACE Overcomers "Trauma Informed and Beyond" training is a combination of science and practical application for educators.
Please include a focus on staff wellness and resiliency as part of your training plan. Our work providing training across all sectors for more than 10 years locally in Philadelphia, as well as our more recent national work which has taken us to programs integrating ACEs and trauma-informed approaches in all types of organizations has demonstrated that focusing on staff wellness and resilience (often as a first step) is imperative. I've written a blog on what we've learned about this here.
We have developed training for educational professionals on ACEs, common trauma responses, what trauma looks like in the classroom, trauma informed responses, and trauma informed schools that we have been presenting in the past 3 years. We have recently also started training educational professionals on vicarious trauma.
You can also find resources in the ACEs in Education community site, Mayleen. Check the right column for resource lists of whole school training, guides & toolkits, online training, etc.
We have been working with this "former alternative school" who made headlines in our local paper today. In just one semester they have raised attendance rates from 50% to 86%, decreased discipline referrals and students earned 186 credits. The principal sat in a 4 hour training this summer then requested the same training for her staff before school started. Myself and my collaborator (Dr. Andi Clements) are meeting monthly with staff to coach them in implementing ACEs science and the work they are doing is truly inspiring! I'm happy to share with you measures we have taken in our work with them if you are interesed. My email is bhaas@johnsoncitytn.org
