Hello!

I'm new to the ACES Connection Community and would first like to thank everyone for having me. So the project I've been spending the last two years on is starting to gain some serious traction nationally/internationally and recently found the compatibility with/necessity for, teaching Resiliency and information around the ACES studies. Would love to have some help, additional writers on the show with experience/knowledge in the ACES field, making some of the episodes open for collaboration. Would love all the help that we can get in getting the word about the ACES out there to the masses so that we can start creating that change for our future generations! launching a crowdfunding campaign in April, would love ALL THE FEEDBACK AND ASSISTANCE THAT ANYONE CAN GIVE!!! Thank you again!!

I think the idea is wonderful.  I am wondering, though, if diversity is a goal in the comic.  Captain Encouragement is Caucasian, as is the only other person pictured on the first comic book.

I saw your idea and immediately thought of how many different populations I've worked with that would benefit from it...but I work really hard not to teach with materials that don't include images of those I am teaching...Can I help with ideas in any way?

@Sheri Newmark thank you so much for the feedback, I completely agree. There needs to be a lot more diversity of races, cultures and more. The first comic has characters of different ethnicities but, in my opinion, not enough. Would love your help with ideas as wells as ways of incorporating different diversities into the episodes! I will direct message you my information as well as @Jane Stevens! Thank you so much!!

Hi there!  Want to echo the diversity comment and also share that I am the creator of a pictorial trauma assessment tool for children that uses a puppy character.  Frankly, that was done as a way to avoid having to create multiple versions with varying genders and races/ethnicities.  But, literature also backs the use of animals as surrogates for kiddos.  I realize your materials are already created, but just some additional feedback.  Anyway, would love to be involved--- I am an assistant professor of social work at the Mandel School in Cleveland, OH but I'm also a child/family therapist.  Could help with research or development?  Keep in touch: jak292@case.edu

Hello Nicholas,

That is inspiring and creative idea you have begun!  Good luck with it. I'm a documentary filmaker/ producer and have been incorporating some animation in portraits of various professionals in CAREGIVERS film. Check out the short videos section on our website (the one on teachers) for an example. We find that animation provides some relief from the talking head format and provides some softening of the serious topics we are addressing,i.e. Secondary Trauma of the helpers. www.caregiversfilm.com

Feel free to be in touch with me if you'd like at viccompher@comcast.net or 268-266-0842.

Good luck with your project!

Vic

PS my background is also in clinical social work. Started making films about 12 years ago.
