Hello community,

My state organization, the Alaska Resilience Initiative, is working on setting up a meeting with our US Senator, Lisa Murkowski, to discuss ACEs, trauma, and S.774, the federal legislation on trauma-informed care that Sens. Durbin (IL) and Heitkamp (ND) introduced in March -- a Senate version of the bill that had been introduced in the House in the previous session.

In addition to meeting with Murkowski, we are planning to send recommended revisions to the sponsoring Senators, and are in conversation with a national attorney working on the bill.

In order to weigh in well, I have been searching around ACEsConnection for conversations and posts about the bill, and have found very little -- just one from last year by Elizabeth Prewitt when it was introduced in the House, and one link to an article. If you:

* have read or know of an article critically analyzing the bill and/or the political strategy on it

or

* have taken part in written conversations about or revisions to it that you could share

or

* would be willing to comment here with your thoughts, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'll also attach the PDF summary of the bill that my intern created, and the critiques/revisions of the bill by one of my steering committee members, to kick the conversation off.

Thanks!

Laura

Good morning,

In case any of these might help!

Of course, I'm feeling incredibly distraught thinking about the the currently proposed "replacement healthcare" plan in the Senate - I would imagine that the outcome of that critical vote (potentially this week) will provide important context for this bill and potential considerations/revisions.

(And speaking of that, a friendly reminder to PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY re: healthcare! I've been using 5calls.org to track my calls and use as a springboard for formulating my comments.)

With thanks for all the amazing work of this community,

Alexis

It was great to learn that the Alaska Resilience Initiative is looking at the Heitkamp-Durbin-Davis legislation and planning to meet with Sen. Murkowski.  I did write an article when the bills were introduced in this session and reported on a briefing that was held after that.  I know that Senators Heitkamp and Durbin tried very hard to make this a bipartisan effort but were unable to bring any Republicans along...in spite of the close relationship that Sen. Heitkamp and Sen. Murkowski appear to have.  The national organization that has provided input into the legislation, the Campaign for Trauma-Informed Policy and Practice, would be happy to work with you on developing a response.  I'll send a separate email with additional information to Laura (Norton-Cruz).
