I was wondering if members could share with me information about home schooling and learning about home schooling. Thank You.
I am totally new at homeschooling this year (1st and 5th graders), but I found this site to be very helpful when choosing curriculums: https://cathyduffyreviews.com/#
She is very unbiased and factual.
Also, I had to register my homeschool with my state department of education and then unenroll my kids from their public school.
Hope these tips help!
I wrote a book back in 2004 that takes you through some decisions that may be helpful. A lot of it is out of date (websites, curriculum, etc.), but thinking through how you interact with your child and the decisions you need to make would still be applicable. It's an easy read (less than a hundred pages). It used to be really cheap...I'm afraid it's popularity is increasing, so it may not be so cheap now.
I know that our state has several options or "cyberschools" beyond what local districts offer. These cyperschools existed before the pandemic, so they appear have had time to "work out the bugs." Some of them are free and offer free devices and broadband internet. I don't want to talk about my region in specifics, since all localities have different options.
Here are some resources concerning school opening regarding the pandemic. I'm not sure, I get a sense that may one of your concerns since it is a concern of many. My children have graduated public schools, so I'm not faced with this difficult decision.
This is actually an ACEs Connection post
I'm not only a mental health clinician, I'm also a graduate of the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. My very cursory knowledge of the recent research concerning transmission of coronavirus in children is confusing since there are different conclusions from different studies. Again. I have not reviewed the actual research from the journals, so I'm not familiar with the research designs. I do know from the news reports that all the studies have very low sample sets leaving me doubting the results of the studies from both sides. I also found a news article from the press this weekend to I found to be very disturbing. I feel the need to alert parents about it.
