Hello Janet -

From Zack GibsonChief Child Advocate and Director Office of Adoption and Child Protection, Executive Office of the Governor:

I would encourage visiting the Florida Dept. of Education’s Office of Safe Schools website: http://www.fldoe.org/safe-schools/.  It has information about the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act that established new requirements for mental health services and training.

Additionally, the State Board of Education voted to require every Florida public school to provide students in grades 6-12 at least five hours of mental health instruction.  The action item for the State Board can be found at http://www.fldoe.org/core/file.../urlt/6A1-094121.pdf

There were also a couple of newspaper articles to which I was referred:

https://mhanys.org/mh-update-7-24-19-florida-becomes-third-state-to-require-mental-health-instruction-in-schools/

 I hope this helps!

Carey
