Hi! I am wonderin if anyone is working on recommendations to their state regarding childcare and COVID-19? Many childcare owners are feeling deserted and without direction right now as our state has yet to release anything directed at childcare.

Also, what is happening to support childcare owners and providers during this time of crisis? I am interested in supporting others, yet would rather not create something new if not nessary.

Be well,

Lucy

Here is what’s happening in Michigan:

Licensing and Regulatory Affairs logo

On March 18, 2020, Governor Whitmer issued Executive Order 2020-16 expanding child care access during the COVID-19 emergency. The order provides that strict compliance with section 7a and subsection (2) of section 5m of the Child Care Organizations Act, 1973 PA 116, as amended, is suspended.

The order provides that a provisional license may be issued in a manner consistent with the order and that a child care license is not required for an employer, or for a school district, or nonpublic school to establish and maintain a disaster relief child care center in a school building.

The order further requires LARA to issue rules and/or orders governing disaster relief child care centers.

The orders and the applications are now available on our website.

Lucy, this brainstorming session will begin shortly but thought you might be interested if you have time...also tomorrow there is a webinar on the recently passed COVID legislation with Rep. Rosa DeLauro that Zero to Three that will address child care.  Happy to talk about getting the information you need in response to your inquiry on "Ask the Community."
