Hi Colleen,

I am an independent consultant. I have over 20 years of experience as a teacher, administrator, superintendent and parent (foster/adopt), trainer, coach and mentor. My dissertation research centered on ACEs and Trauma-Engaged practices.  I have trained hundreds of adults on ACEs and Trauma-Informed practice.  I have my PhD in Educational Leadership and Administration from Northwest Nazarene University.  I am located in Boise, Idaho (if travel is a concern).

I would love to talk with you to see if this might be a good fit.

Best to you,

After your training, you may want to use a resource like Mind Matters: Overcoming Adversity and Building Resilience to help your supervisors learn and  share, in an ongoing way, practical tools with case workers that promote healing and build resilience in themselves and their clients.

Drs. Stephanie Covington and Sandra Bloom are foremost experts on this topic.  We at Hazelden Publishing can help coordinate training sessions with them.

Another option is the training program that they co-authored; Moving from Trauma-informed to Trauma-responsive: A Training Program for Organizational Change.  It provides program administrators and clinical directors with key resources needed to train staff and make organizational changes to become trauma-responsive. This comprehensive training program involves all staff, ensuring clients are served with a trauma-responsive approach.

This training program describes the ten-step process of becoming trauma-responsive:

  • Gain knowledge of stress, adversity, and trauma
  • Understand the impact of organizational stress and trauma
  • Understand the concept and structure of a Guide Team
  • Assess and improve clientsΒ’ first experience with your organization
  • Assess and improve your organizationΒ’s physical space
  • Assess and improve your organizationΒ’s sense of safety
  • Understand the leadership qualities and skills needed to initiate trauma-responsive organizational change
  • Create a shared language and tools to address trauma
  • Implement evidence-based, trauma-specific curricula
  • Have each staff person create a personal self-care plan
