Hello,                                                                                            September 25, 2018

I am writing my dissertation on the benefits of creating a trauma informed higher education institution. I am looking for HE institutions that are already doing trauma informed practices in specific areas but more so for institutions that are implementing the practice throughout the organization. Do you have any resources that you might direct me towards? I would also appreciate any non-health and non-social service organizations who are incorporating these practices. I am doing a program evaluation of a gender responsive drug court that is implementing trauma informed practices.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of my request.

Laura:

Tennessee higher education institutions are doing quite a bit of work on this.  I will share information that I have and let you see which ones are of interest to you.  Middle Tennessee State University was just awarded a TN Department of Children's Services Innovation grant for MTSU: PEACE—Professional Educators Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences, a set of active learning activities derived from Building Strong Brains: Tennessee’s ACEs Initiative and other proven educational resources applied to future childhood educators.

Belmont University also received an Innovation Grant for:  Belmont University: Belmont University’s Educating Trauma Informed Professionals (BETIP) has two initial aims: 1) develop evidence-based, cross-disciplinary, trauma-informed care curriculum for undergraduate nursing, public health and social work students and 2) identify and address knowledge and training needs of recent graduates and practicing professionals in these disciplines. Community stakeholders have been engaged to identify knowledge gaps about ACEs; work with ACEs content, messaging and curriculum design experts; and support faculty champions to lead development of the new curriculum.

University of Tennessee Martin has created a course regarding ACEs and had their first offering Summer 2018.

East TN State University has infused ACEs information and Trauma Informed Care practices into several of their curricula.

Please reach out in a private message and I will be glad to talk more about this:  john.rust@tn.gov
