Staff at ACEs Connection have found PE a great tool for anonymous participant screening of ACEs - especially when compared to the original data.  Often the results seen on the screen help shift the conversation from them - to us.

Do they set it up as a multiple choice with just the final scores or do they put the questions in the poll and tally it somehow?

Jocelyn, I've found the simplest way is to just ask the question "How many ACEs did you experience prior to age 18?"  Then they just put in the number.  This also helps to emphasize the point that the number matters more than which experience.

I've also used a low tech version when internet or cell service isn't available.  I ask participants to write their number on a small slip of paper and then have a colleague stick these to flip chart paper divided into categories 0-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6+.  The slips of paper then create a bar graph that the group can make observations about.

Good luck!

Maybe we can do a practice run together and see how it works? I've not done it yet either but I'm pretty sure the questions are in the poll and people respond with phones and that allows scores to be tallied/visible. Cis

It is also possible to Anonymously Coin Toss Poll kids and adults ACE
questions without electronics in classrooms and auditoriums. People toss
coin and if get tails fib and say heads if answer is yes to an ACE
question. Difference from 50/50 heads/tails indicates the number of persons
that answered yes. For large groups ask people to self count in groups of
ten to speed process. Not hackable0.

Hi, Jocelyn:
Having facilitated PollEverywhere in Bakersfield last year during an all-day conference, the technology process walks you through each of the ten questions individually. You'll unclick the question, await the cell phone text, real-time responses, click that question, unclick the next question, and continue the process. All of the responses are anonymous.

Prior to inviting the participants to engage with the ACE quiz, please ensure they know there is support staff available for anyone triggered.

Please consider having the Resilience Questionnaire (also available to set up on PollEverywhere) at the same time to ensure the process is strengths-based.

Please know too you can customize additional questions. There are expanded ACEs surveys and resilience surveys for your consideration housed in our Resources Center.
